Executor Coaching

Personalized guidance to help you fulfill your role with confidence.

Many executors have the desire and ability to act but feel lost regarding what to do next and how to effectively perform their duties. Vesta offers a unique coaching service to help you navigate the process.

After a comprehensive in-person review, we create a detailed executor guidebook outlining the status of the estate, clear next steps, timeframe estimates, and simple-to-follow instructions for tackling each task. This plan is delivered and reviewed in person, with the goal of preparing you completely for your role.

We aim to have the guidebook in your hands within two weeks of our initial meeting, with the goal of helping you on your way to begin your executorship. In addition, we remain available to answer any additional questions and provide coaching as needed.

Agent for Executor

Professional support to handle some or all of your executor duties.

Every estate is unique, as are the details of how an agent for executor may be able to assist you.

If you accept your position as an executor, you act as a fiduciary, meaning you are obligated to act in the best interests of the estate and beneficiaries. This position carries significant weight and personal liability, and you are held to the highest standard of care to manage the estate with diligence, honesty, and impartiality.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or could just use a little help, Vesta can act as your agent—handling some or all duties while you remain the final decision maker.

We manage the day-to-day responsibilities, allowing you to fulfill your role without becoming overwhelmed by the complexity and time commitment. Regular updates are provided until the final passing of accounts. Some of these duties may include:

Managing tasks effectively and on schedule
Identifying and handling complex tax matters
 Regular beneficiary communication
Detailed and accurate passing of accounts

How much do executor services cost?

As an executor, you are entitled to compensation for your time and responsibility.

Despite the time and complexity of the work, many executors are surprised when they learn that the Trustee Act in BC entitles them to take compensation for their work. Standard compensation for an executor allows them to take up to 5% of the gross aggregate value of the estate, recognizing the time, effort and responsibility they must contribute.

Vesta will negotiate a fee agreement directly with the executor, dependent on the service, time and complexity of the tasks required. This fee is taken from the estate per executor compensation guidelines. Although every estate and associated fee is different, all fees are agreed upon up front and reflect the time and effort required.

Finally, be aware that an executor is also permitted to charge professional expenses to the estate, outside of their compensation. Common examples could be a lawyer’s help in filing probate, an accountant’s fee for tax advice and final return filing, or a realtor’s fee to appraise and sell property.

It's never too late to ask for help.

What if I have already started?

It’s never too late to ask for help.

Although the simplest time to ask for assistance is when you begin your task, many executors have already applied for their grant of probate before they reach out. Every executor service agreement is unique, as remaining tasks and estate details can vary greatly.

If you think you could use a hand, reach out and schedule a no-obligation consultation to begin with clarity and confidence.
